Model developer: Numerical Weather Prediction

Your main responsibilities are:

  • Operation, maintenance and and improvement of UBIMET’s local numerical weather prediction model
  • Conducting experiments with meteorological models to improve forecast accuracy
  • Define and investigate case studies for special meteorological situations to improve model performance in various situations (convective events in summer, foehn events, isothermal snowfall in winter, etc.)
  • Verification and comparison of performance of various numerical weather prediction models
  • Input data preparation, pre- and post-processing of model data
  • Data conversion and visualization of results

We are looking for analytical and enthusiastic personalities with:

  • A completed Master’s degree in Meteorology, Physics, Geophysics, Geography, Mathematics, Chemistry, Informatics or a related field
  • Experience in working with and developing numerical weather models, ideally the Weather Research and Forecasting Model (WRF)
  • Good understanding of fluid dynamics (numerics, dynamics, physics)
  • Basic programming skills in Fortran
  • Additionally, programming skills in one of the following languages: Python, Perl
  • Experience with Linux as a working environment
  • Advanced English skills, German is a plus
  • A goal-oriented and result driven approach
  • A proactive, independent and organized way of working
